Missing posts

Post by DDRM »

It appears Richard has deleted a number of his posts in some discussions. I know the reason, and there may be further fall-out....

I'll expand in due course. Sorry about that.

Here is Richard's own comment:

"I've already factored in my departure because (as is recommended) I've deleted my posts in 'active' topics so I'm not faced with the extreme irritation of not being able to reply to follow-ups. I would ask you not to misrepresent that action, it's what people leaving a forum by choice are recommended to do if they have the opportunity.

I have been extremely careful to ensure that every post I have deleted contains no information that might be of value to anybody else. Indeed that was easy because the topics in which those posts were made have now become irrelevant: the Raspberry Pi GPIO library now works on the RPi 5, the keywords utility is finished and released, and the decision to increase the initial memory to 32 Mbytes has been made."

At Richard's request, I have deleted his account.

Thank you DDRM.
It's sad to see Richard leave the forum, but I respect his choice.
I hope to see him return one day, maybe under a more fitting nickname. "Renowned Expert" perhaps?

If my perception of Richard is accurate, this doesn't mean an end to BBC Basic development, only to where he can converse about it.
He needs to occupy his mind for his own well-being and I can't imagine there's anything more mind-taxing than solo programming at this level.
Started using BASIC circa 1981 with CP/M, Video Genie, Sinclair ZX81, Acorn Atom, and progressed with ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro and Sinclair QL, Cambridge Z88, DOS, Windows. Wrote A-level project using school's BBC Micro with dual 800K floppy drive.

Can I just add that Richard’s most recent update 1.39a, to the gpio library, has been most useful to me, and I can confirm that it works fine on both a 32 bit Raspberry Pi 4 and a 64 bit Pi 5. And I’ll add that he also provided a lot of help and explanation along the way - very useful for me as until recently I had not used BASIC for many years, and have virtually no experience in other languages.
