You are assuming that in the absence of any signal what you will receive is white noise.
I'd like to clarify, I was not assuming that or making any assumption of the sort. I've been careful to communicate in this thread that I recognise and acknowledge that the idea of trying to get randomness from an audio interface with no mic plugged very most likely does not work, exactly for the reasons you describe - like I said, it was just a silly experiment I did for fun years ago. Sorry if I mis-communicated.
But thank you for the explanation there, I appreciate it and your in-depth knowledge and experience on this subject as an engineer.
The BBC's video watermark was hidden in the Fukinuki Hole.
I'd love to know more about this.

I'd like to say that I'm really really sorry for my previous comment and I feel really terrible about it. I hope Richard will continue using these forums and offering his expertise.
