Hi Folks,
For what it is worth, I don't think I have the power to close down the forum: Richard, as founder member, is undeleteable (?spelling!), and I don't think I'd be able to close the forum either.
So Richard, ultimately it is up to you. It can stay open, and you can post, or you can close it, and the rest of us, however many there are, will have to look for support via the various other routes. For now at least I am happy to continue as admin if you leave it open.
Best wishes,
D

Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
I offered to transfer the 'founder' status to you before, but you said you were content not to have it. I've now done that: you are now the forum's founder, you have the ultimate authority to do anything at all.

The only down side to this (from your point of view) is that if we have a repetition of the 'accident' which caused the forum to go offline for a week some while ago, now it would have to be you who restores it from the backup rather than me.
Can we put this to bed now? Nobody can claim the forum is 'mine' any more. All decisions about its future are yours, which is how I want it.
Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
Hi Richard,
...but not how *I* want it! I'm doing day-to-day admin as a favour to you, but in no way do I consider it "my" forum. If you want to shut it, then shut it, but don't try to palm the decision off onto me. As far as I can see, the forum provides a useful function, and I am happy for you to continue posting to it. If you feel either that you can't post or that it is no longer useful, that has to be a decision YOU make.
Best wishes,
D

Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
That's a shame, but at least you are now in control. If you'd rather not carry on administering the forum that's entirely your prerogative, nobody can force you to, just as nobody can force me to. Whatever it is you want to do, you now can.
I asked that this now be put to bed. I would earnestly request that no more posts be made in this thread, perhaps you might consider locking it.
Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
OK, but Admin's privilege to have the last word!
I will not close the forum, and Richard is welcome to post.
If Richard doesn't like it he can stop paying for it, and presumably it will disappear in a puff of blue smoke. He is also welcome to contact me privately to ask me to close it, but that will be at his request.
If anyone else doesn't like it, please feel free to take your custom elsewhere...

D
Edit: I'm too stupid/ignorant/busy to find how to lock the thread, so it will just need everyone not to post in it.
Edited edit: I've found it!

Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
Depending what your bandwidth and disk space usage is, I maybe be able to host for you as long as you don't need any fancy control panel. I have spare capacity on my server and would be happy to donate to a good cause. I could send you a daily or weekly backup in case anything happened to me or the server you'd still have access.
I've been with my current provider since 2014 and not planning on going anywhere. Send an email to my registered address if you want to discuss further.

Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
As another option, I can also buy another edition of BBC4W to assist for costs of running this forum. Richard, if this is ok I can even make it so it helps a person who is under me personally. I do have some people who are close to me that could use a full version of BBC4W and that could be a win win. Let me know if this is a good idea. I do know at least 2 people close to me that could use it.
Re: Hosting Annual Renewal
Nelgin and Michael: if you are interested in taking your suggestions (which I'm grateful for) further, I suggest you conduct private discussions with Richard, rather than posting it on the public fora. Now that I've found where to do it, I'll lock this thread, as requested by Richard.
Best wishes,
