Richard Russell has been a significant driving force behind BBC BASIC since the early 1980s and, with the release of BB4W in October 2001, BBC BASIC was brought firmly into the Microsoft Windows era.
Whilst staying true to the language many of us first encountered on 8-bit microcomputers, BB4W featured direct Windows API and DLL calls, more advanced programming concepts such as data structures, advanced variable types with greater precision, larger memory limits, events, the ability to build standalone executables, and more.
A huge thank you to Richard for creating BB4W, and for continuing to develop, maintain and support BBC BASIC for so many years.
Happy 25th birthday to BBC BASIC for Windows.
