iOS Developer Mode

Post by Hated Moron »

In iOS 16 and later, Apple's ongoing desire to make their devices even more annoying safer means that BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0 will not run unless you enable Developer Mode; you will be alerted to this when you try to run the app. Don't panic though, because turning on Developer Mode is straightforward, and the mode is persistent through reboots or OS upgrades.

Go to Settings, then Privacy and Security and you should find Developer Mode there. Enabling it will present you with all sorts of dire warnings, but don't be concerned: your device will be no less safe than it was when running iOS 15.

To be fair to Apple, I've also needed to activate developer mode in Android to do some quite innocuous-seeming things...

Now Apple has introduced a Developer Mode, why couldn't that also enable previously blocked facilities like the BBC BASIC assembler, or allow programming languages to be available from the App Store etc., rather than simply restoring what we could do in iOS previously? But of course that would be far too 'dangerous', even for a developer. Sheesh!
