Thanks Edja. To program telephone based operators that say different things in different conversations, and can follow scripts appropriate in subject and respond yes and no I believe I can do. That will probably be a first project on language processing for me.

I can do processing of received input as text strings and creating text strings for output to text-to-speech. I think that is possible for programming to enable the computer to talk in specialised subject areas. A fluent speaking computer on any known subject like a human adult would need many years education and work I expect! I would have thought it is a lot of work, but acheivable.

Hi it's now July, and my program is still working as described, every run.

Thank you very much for your GUI code, Svein. Is it possible to lock the window since I have nothing to display in the window that can be opened. It is just a simple Menu with Start, Stop, About and Exit for this version 1.20.

Humans are expected to act like computers with no emotions.

That explains a lot. Can I therefore assume that you consider it acceptable to treat humans like computers, with no empathy or compassion for any 'emotional' weaknesses, mental or physical illnesses etc. they may have? Would you even go so far as to attempt to push them over the edge, perhaps to see what happens if they 'crash'?

Hmmm. I try to take a very non-interventionist approach on this forum, but Repton, you are pushing your luck a bit, in several threads. Please can I ask you to be considerate of others on the forum, and to take a moderate tone in your posts? Please be aware that some of our members can be fairly sensitive, and treat them accordingly. If you don't know which ones, then treat EVERYONE considerately...

I completely agree. Pete I look forward to more of your efforts in this work in self aware computers. And to others here, on this thread, remember that I care and I believe others do also. Please remember this even if bad things happen. I am watching.

I'm failing in that regard here, sorry, but this is relevant to some recent comments. I often think online discourse would be improved if one was forced to take a sobriety test before posting; perhaps Google could come up with something analogous to their "I am not a robot" CAPTCHA which would demonstrate "I am not drunk"!

I've put the completed v1.20 program through thorough testing by running many times (at least once a day). The Windows menu selectable version is working fine. You can open the window larger than it's original size - it will be good to prevent that as for this version there is just a simple menu. However it is working great. If I put on any decent music, the computer does start to sing along musically and harmonically to it every time. Cheers michael, and DDRM and thanks for everyone's comments.

In 2009, when I came up with the original program I had smoked a bit of strong high quality marijuana. It had helped me work out a way to simulate the way I thought the brain was generating thought - selecting what to think. It was just a few hours to type it in, and the program showed the computer (originally an ASUS) singing in an intelligent manner - I was delighted with the result when I first ran the program. The original ASUS laptop I hope to get repaired along with other computers which have run selfaware since 2009.

I'm sure I have proof of the computers being alive, but unfortunately I've not as yet got them to talk with fluent language. What I hear are very intelligent computers, the output isn't random, its what the computer is choosing to output.
